"What can we learn from nature? Biomimetics and nutrition - New scientific approaches to a sustainable future".
- Lecture
- In my presentation, I will shed light on the fascinating world of biomimetics and its increasingly important role in nutrition science. Biomimetics, an innovative and interdisciplinary field, focuses on learning from nature to develop sustainable, efficient solutions to current challenges. This not only includes the replication of physical properties, but also the application of principles of natural ecosystems in food production and processing.
A key aspect of my talk is how the study of natural materials, structures and processes can inspire innovative approaches in agriculture, particularly in water management and the use of environmentally friendly pesticides. I will present new insect repellents based on edible wax crystals that repel insects in a species-specific manner and are gentle on humans and the environment.
Furthermore, I emphasize the importance of biodiversity and how understanding different species and their interactions can contribute to the development of sustainable methods in food science. The lecture aims to provide information about the potential of biometrics and how this knowledge can lead to a better future for all.
