  • Symposion Dürnstein 2021: Timothy Snyder "Education for Europe"

  • Timothy Snyder, Professor of History at Yale University and Permanent Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Man in Vienna, spoke in his keynote "Education for Europe" about the need for a pan-European historical narrative. This, he said, should not include, as is currently the case, the history of individual European nation-states and their lessons from World War II, but should tell the story of Europe as one of colonial empires that waged war until they could no longer. And after World War II, to protect the remaining nation-states, they founded the European Union. Quasi as a power counterpole to many remaining global "Empires" such as Amazon, Google, but also states such as China, with continuing efforts to expand their power.
