Still high level of food security in Austria
In its June 2023 report, the Austrian Court of Audit attested to Austria's high level of food security, but groundwater resources are dwindling and there is an urgent need for action to preserve agricultural land.
As early as 2018, soil resources were not sufficient to fully supply Austria. Water use, climate, population and farm development as well as eating habits are factors that influence food production and availability.
The high dependence on imports of fossil fuels poses a risk. The auditors of the Austrian Court of Audit pointed out in the published report "Food - Security of Supply" that Austria should prepare itself better for possible crises in the area of food security.
To the report:
Under the title "What will we eat tomorrow?", topics relating to food security will be discussed from 14 - 16 March 2024 as part of the Symposium Dürnstein in the Prelate's Hall at Dürnstein Abbey.
